About the GTR and LBTA The Genesee Terminal Railroad is a freelanced shortline railroad set around a freelanced bay on the New York side of Lake Ontario. It is set in "the present", meaning I've changed my interchange from Conrail to CSX and model modern customers and traffic. It is an HO railroad built to a "believeable" level of detail, and is built to operate with the same "believeable" level of operating procedure. The GTR operates local freights and maintains the right of way. Trackage rights are granted to the Loon Bay Transit Authority (also freelanced), a commuter and port authority. Trackage rights are also granted to Amtrak, which operates two daily Empire Corridor trains through the area. A run-through CSX intermodal train exchanges piggyback and container traffic at LBTA's intermodal facility. The railroad operates on block control with verbal track orders from the dispatcher. |

Operations We operate on a 6:1 fast clock, provided by software running on an old PC (rehosted from an XT in C to event procedures in MS Access). The mainline is a loop; we extend operating times by inserting laps between interchange points and stations. This gives an 84km mainline. (Hey, it's my railroad, I made my little world metric like God meant it to be.) Our daily schedule includes four Amtrak runthroughs, morning and evening commuter trains, a daily local freight operating on paper cards and waybills and one intermodal exchange with CSX. Supporting crews do intermodal switching and yard classification for the daily local. Operating sessions are occasional and may include a number of these movements. The GTR's customers include a salt mine (switching with its own loco), the salt packaging plant, a dairy co-op, a feed mill, a lumber yard and a paper products company. |

Future Plans - The backdrop is in place and painted, and the ground has terrain shape and color. The scenery on the original 5x11 section is pretty much in place, but on the rest of the road there's a lot of work to be done. Structures are next! - I intend to add computer dispatching and signalling at some time. Hopefully, the railroad will never be "done"! |
